Same story different setting – illustration challenge

A fun activity many illustrators and designers use to get themselves thinking differently, is to choose a well know fairytale or story and re-invent it.

You need to keep the main ideas the same but you can change …

  • What the characters are like and look like – nicer/meaner/scarier/girl or boy/animal or person/age/clothes
  • Where the story takes place, choose a different setting- forest/space/under the sea/in the sky/another planet or world
  • When it takes place – past/present/future/ alternative timeline
  • What else is happening in the world – alien invasion/apocalypse/magic curse/robots attack/rise of the plants/ technology
  • How the characters interact – Maybe they aren’t enermies/ maybe they sundenly are.

This is a really fun activity as you can do whatever you want, whatever you can imagine…. Just use your chosen story as a starting point.

Year 5 – Remember when we did our illustration project? develop your ideas, don’t just go with your first idea, improve on it.

Start by sketching ideas, use any art materials you want.

Would love to see your work for this one.

Below are some pictures I found of a re-invented ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ – You could choose any story.
