3D letters….

You know how to do bubble writing, easy. How about 3D writing?

  • Start by doing some simple bubble writing, give a good amount of space between each letter/number. Its easier to start by doing letters with straight edges, rather than too rounded.
  • Then draw diagonal lines going into the direction you want the letters to appear 3D.
  • Join this lines together, it will take some practising to get this right, you can usually tell if something looks wrong – just check – the diagonal lines should be all going the same direction.
  • Fill in the sides of your letters to give a shadowed look. You could also go over the outlines of your letterering to make it stand out.

  • Change which direction the letters appear to be by changing the direction of your diagonal lines.

Once you get the hang of it, you can really start to warp the letters and see how far you can push the 3D effect – just remeber the rules of perspective – lines going the same direction should be parallel.
